If you want a top-notch smile and oral health, then you need to make preventive care a top priority. Everything you do can help you prevent dental issues, like tooth decay, gum disease, enamel erosion, tooth cracks and other problems. The more you prevent dental issues, the better off your smile will be. So, our dentist, Dr. Craig Wada, encourages you to take advantage of preventive care by doing the following things:

-Brushing: You should brush twice a day for two minutes each time. Make sure to brush each tooth or quadrant of the mouth equally. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. The soft bristles can clean and care for your teeth and gums and the fluoride can strengthen your tooth enamel.

-Flossing: You should floss your teeth once a day. This can help you remove the food particles, plaque and other harmful substances from between the teeth and along the gumline. As you floss, it’s best to use a tool that’s easy to maneuver so you can avoid damaging your tissues.

-Attending your dental checkups: You should receive a dental cleaning and exam every six months. Doing so cleans the stubborn plaque and tartar from your teeth and gumline to help you prevent gum disease. This is important because your oral hygiene routine cannot do this for you.
